Northern Ireland Curriculum
"Providing Equality of Opportunity and Access for all"
The Northern Ireland Curriculum sets out the aims and objectives for the education of your child. Recently the curriculum was reviewed and you may recall references being made to the Revised Curriculum. This term described the training period, in which all schools participated. This training phases is now complete and the Northern Ireland Curriculum is now statutory for ALL schools in Northern Ireland. So what is it all about?
The Northern Ireland Curriculum aims to:
" ...empower young people to develop their potential and to make informed and responsible choices and decisions throughout their lives."
There are 3 curriculum objectives. To develop children;
1. as individuals;
2. as contributors to society; and
3. as contributors to the economy and the environment.
You can see from the aims and objectives that the curriculum involves much more than setting high aspirations for learning in traditional areas, eg literacy and numeracy. Although these areas are still the driving force of the curriculum, we are also focused on developing the whole child and developing life long learning. Equiping them to deal with the life in the 21st Century and preparing them for jobs which have yet to be created.
As an integrated school with child centred learning at its core we are passionate about educating your child and supporting them on this exciting journey.
